You have a PNG file but the form only accepts JPEG. Your designer sent a WebP but your software does not open it. Your social media tool rejects the format you have. Image format conversion is one of those small tasks that comes up constantly, and it should not require installing software or paying for a subscription.
When Do You Need to Convert?
Format conversion comes up in more situations than you might expect:
- Website uploads. Many platforms only accept JPEG or PNG. If you have a WebP or BMP file, you need to convert it first.
- Email attachments. Some email clients struggle with newer formats like WebP.
- Print shops. Professional printers usually require JPEG or TIFF files.
- Transparency needs. If you need a transparent background, you must convert from JPEG (which does not support transparency) to PNG or WebP.
- File size reduction. Converting a PNG photograph to JPEG can reduce file size by 80% or more.
Supported Format Conversions
With fileGOD's image converter, you can convert between all major image formats:
- JPEG to PNG, WebP, BMP, or GIF
- PNG to JPEG, WebP, BMP, or GIF
- WebP to JPEG, PNG, BMP, or GIF
- BMP to JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF
- GIF to JPEG, PNG, WebP, or BMP
Quick Conversion Shortcuts
If you frequently convert between the same two formats, fileGOD also offers dedicated quick-convert tools:
- JPG to PNG (and PNG to JPG)
- JPG to WebP (and WebP to JPG)
- PNG to WebP (and WebP to PNG)
These two-way tools automatically detect the input format and output the other. Drop a JPG, get a PNG. Drop a PNG, get a JPG. No settings to configure.
Tips for Better Conversions
- Converting to JPEG removes transparency. The transparent areas will become white. If you need transparency, stick with PNG or WebP.
- Converting from JPEG to PNG does not improve quality. Once JPEG compression has removed data, converting to PNG will not bring it back. The PNG will just be a larger file with the same quality.
- WebP is your best bet for web use. If your platform supports it, WebP gives you the smallest files with the best quality.
- Batch convert to save time. You can convert up to 20 images at once with fileGOD. Drop them all in and download the results in one go.
All conversions happen in your browser. No files are uploaded to any server, and you do not need to create an account to get started.
